Field Technician – Fiber Inspector

Location: South Bend, Indiana

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM or 8:00 AM–4:00 PM (Some Overtime Available)

Job Overview:

We are seeking a Field Technician with experience in fiber construction and conduit systems to support an ongoing underground fiber inspection and surveying project in South Bend, Indiana . This is a long-term, field-based role requiring hands-on inspection of fiber infrastructure within the public right-of-way. The technician will be responsible for auditing and documenting manholes, handholes, and telecom huts as part of an underground fiber network.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

• Conduct walkouts of fiber routes, moving from manhole to manhole (typically 500–1000 feet apart).
• Open access points (e.g., lids of manholes and handholes) using provided safety equipment such as blowers, diggers, and tripods.
• Capture detailed photos of underground infrastructure.
• Audit and document:
• Manholes, handholes, and huts.
• Fiber conduit sizing, fiber counts, and routing.
• Rack setups, labels, port assignments, and security of installations.
• Track fiber paths from long haul entry points into buildings.
• Ensure accuracy in recording fiber and conduit configurations for engineering purposes.
• Work safely in and around public areas and traffic zones.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Hands-on experience with fiber construction and conduit systems .
• Familiarity with fiber racking , labeling, port verification, and cable routing.
• Ability to interpret and document existing infrastructure layouts.
• Comfortable working outdoors in various conditions and walking extended distances daily.

Preferred Certifications (Candidates without these may be certified prior to onboarding) :

• OSHA 10 (Construction)
• Confined Space Certification

• All daytime work – no overnight shifts.
